A SCHOOL BOARD IN GEORGIA HAS REPORTEDLY UPHELD A POLICY PROHIBITING CHEERLEADERS FROM DISPLAYING RELIGIOUS BANNERS ON THE FIELD AT HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAMES. Associated Baptist Press reports that the Catoosa County Public School Board accepted their attorney's argument that the signs were unconstitutional. The prohibition against the banners was first put in place during a September 28th school board meeting and it was met with widespread opposition. The superintendant said that while she regretted removing the banners from the field, it was her responsibility to protect the district from a lawsuit. Opposition to the banners was first raised by a local woman who said they violate federal law. A local attorney argued that the signs were protected under the First Amendment.
