A missing 7 year old Florida girl has ties to the Piedmont. Somer Thompson's father, Sam Thompson, lives in Graham. An Amber Alert was issued after the girl vanished on her way home from school on Monday in north Florida. The girl’s mom, Dina, made an emotional appeal to Somer's possible abductors this morning during a news conference.

A Duke Energy agreement would raise energy rates 7% starting January 1st. That would be Duke Energy’s first increase since 1991. A hearing on the proposed rate hike is set for later today.

The City of Greensboro has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists as a Bronze level Bicycle Friendly Community. Being designated as a ‘bicycle friendly’ community will help Greensboro ‘build momentum’ in making cycling a viable form of transportation in the city.
Greensboro is the fourth city in the state to be awarded the distinction.
