Breaking News: Authorities in Orange Park, Florida have positively identified the body found at a landfill as that of Somer Thompson. The 7 year old girl disappeared on her mile-long walk home from school Monday in Orange Park. Somer was squabbling with another child, and her sister told her to stop. Somer got upset, walked ahead of the group and wasn't seen again…until her body was found. FYI: Somer Thompson's father, Sam Thompson, lives in Graham.

Employees of Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools will be subject to random background checks after officials discovered a middle school drama teacher with a criminal past had slipped through the cracks. Currently, background checks are only performed when employees are hired by the school system. Ralph Surridge, a drama teacher at Mineral Springs Middle School, was arrested Saturday on charges of sexual mis-conduct with a student. Investigators later learned Surridge had served jail time for felony embezzlement charges in 1985, something school officials said they were unaware of when they hired Surridge in 2003.
