Dell will close its desktop computer manufacturing plant in Winston-Salem in January. Approximately 905 employees will be affected by the closing…with about 600 employees losing their jobs in November. Mayor Allen Joines said the city is well-protected from potential losses incurred by the plant's closing. Dell is expected to repay the city of Winston-Salem $15.5 million dollars. Before Dell opened the plant in 2005, the company was promised more than $300 million in state and local incentives. But it was required to invest $100 million, create 1,700 jobs by September 2010 and maintain those jobs for 10 more years. If those terms weren't met, the company would forfeit the incentive package. http://www.myfox8.com/wghp-dell-closing-091007,0,5582786.story
