(MT AIRY) A candidate Democratic for the state’s House of Representatives was arrested twice for DWI over the weekend. Mt Airy police pulled over John Randolph Wolfe, of Mount Airy, is charged with two counts of driving while intoxicated, two counts of driving with a revoked license and resisting arrest. Local soldier looses his life in Afghanistan. Army Staff Sgt. Adam L. Dickmyer passed away on October 28. He was 26-years-old. Adam’s father said that his son died while on foot patrol in Kandahar province in Afghanistan when he stepped on a landmine. Dickmyer joined the Army after graduating from Carver High School in 2002. He is survived by his wife, Melinda, his father, David Dickmyer, of Winston-Salem and his mother, Stephanie Dickmyer, of New Port Richey, Florida. Even though there was NO school last Friday in Guilford County, hundreds of students stopping by Northwest Guilford High School to pay respects to one of their own. Sophomore Chase Bunting passed away last Wednesday from a skateboarding accident. Doctors said Chase suffered trauma to his brain stem while skateboarding. He was not wearing a helmet. A memorial service for Chase Bunting will be held at 1 p.m. this afternoon at Westover Church in Greensboro. Well, Tom Fetzer, the chairman of the Republican Party in North Carolina alleged Thursday that a programming flaw with touch-screen voting machines used for early voting in 36 counties is causing votes intended for GOP candidates to be counted for Democrats. Storm damage…Residents in Stokes and Rockingham counties will likely spend part of the day cleaning up after severe storms swept through their area early last night. Damage was reported in the Jefferson Church Road area of King, where residents said several trees were knocked down and some houses were damaged at about 7:30 p.m. The storm also turned over a truck in the parking lot of a Pizza Hut just off Highway 52 in King. A Tornado warning yesterday afternoon in several Triad counties caused some anxious moments for parents of school children. In Forsyth County, students were ushered into hallways as they ducked for cover. Those students were held after school for about an hour until the warning expired. The situation for students in Guilford County wasn't nearly as hectic, as most were already out of school for an early release. Buses that were on the road were ordered to pull over and wait. (WXII)

The King City Council and their attorneys meeting in a closed door session on Tuesday. 75 supporters of the Christian flag issue gathered last night to pray for city officials make the right decision concerning the Christian flag. Back in September, the King City Council voting to remove a Christian flag from the Veteran's Memorial at Central Park pending a potential lawsuit by the ACLU. The 10-day suspension of a Northern Guilford Middle School student for bringing a loaded handgun to school has some parents scratching their heads. The school district hearing officer will assess the suspension case and make a ruling later in the week. Last Friday, a tip from another student led school officials to search an 8th-grader’s locker. That’s when they discovered two hand guns and 11 rounds of ammunition. One of the guns was loaded.
Police are still trying to find out how the student got the guns. Also last Friday, a student at the Kennedy Learning Center in Winston-Salem brought a loaded handgun to school. In this case, school officials would not release information concerning the suspension. (Fox8)
Nearly 80 current and former dry-cleaning facilities in nine of the Triad’s 12 counties will soon be investigated for possible solvent contamination. Perchloroethylene, a chemical widely used in dry cleaning, has been classified as a ‘human carcinogen” by the U.S. government. According to the Triad Business Journal, AMEC, a company based in England has been awarded a 5 year contract to investigate and clean-up potentially contaminated sites. Adam Baker, the father of a missing 10 year old girl from Hickory, was arrested Monday on eight charges, including five counts of writing bad-checks. The latest charges are unrelated to the disappearance of his daughter, Zahra Baker, who was reported missing on October 9. The step-mother Elisa Baker has admitted to writing a fake ransom note, a day after the girl's disappearance was reported to police. (Fox8)

Among the organizations working to halt the outbreak of Cholera in Haiti north of Port-au-Prince is Water Missions International. The ministry over the weekend airlifted and trucked in five water purification systems that would be able to provide safe water for 50 thousand people. The ministry already has 115 water treatment systems in Haiti serving 200 thousand earthquake victims. The recent outbreak of Cholera has claimed at least 269 lives. The 10-day suspension of a Northern Guilford Middle School student for bringing a loaded handgun to school has some parents scratching their heads. The school district hearing officer will assess the suspension case and make a ruling later in the week. Last Friday, a tip from another student led school officials to search an 8th-grader’s locker. That’s when they discovered two hand guns and 11 rounds of ammunition. One of the guns was loaded.
Police are still trying to find out how the student got the guns. Also last Friday, a student at the Kennedy Learning Center in Winston-Salem brought a loaded handgun to school. In this case, school officials would not release information concerning the suspension. (Fox8)
Nearly 80 current and former dry-cleaning facilities in nine of the Triad’s 12 counties will soon be investigated for possible solvent contamination. Perchloroethylene, a chemical widely used in dry cleaning, has been classified as a ‘human carcinogen” by the U.S. government. According to the Triad Business Journal, AMEC, a company based in England has been awarded a 5 year contract to investigate and clean-up potentially contaminated sites. Adam Baker, the father of a missing 10 year old girl from Hickory, was arrested Monday on eight charges, including five counts of writing bad-checks. The latest charges are unrelated to the disappearance of his daughter, Zahra Baker, who was reported missing on October 9. The step-mother Elisa Baker has admitted to writing a fake ransom note, a day after the girl's disappearance was reported to police. (Fox8)

Among the organizations working to halt the outbreak of Cholera in Haiti north of Port-au-Prince is Water Missions International. The ministry over the weekend airlifted and trucked in five water purification systems that would be able to provide safe water for 50 thousand people. The ministry already has 115 water treatment systems in Haiti serving 200 thousand earthquake victims. The recent outbreak of Cholera has claimed at least 269 lives. Stanley Tanger, the founder of the outlet mall shopping industry, died of pneumonia on Saturday. Tanger was 87. Tanger, a longtime Greensboro resident, started with a single shopping center in Burlington and built the company up to 33 outlet malls in 22 states.
The newest Tanger Outlet shopping center will open November 5th in Mebane.
Tanger is survived by his wife of 63 years, Doris, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held today (11am) at Temple Emanuel in Greensboro.

The death toll continues to rise in Haiti because of an outbreak of cholera. Health authorities say 253 people have been killed with more than 3,000 infected with the cholera bacteria. Concern has grown that the disease could spread to Port-au-Prince where hundreds of thousands of survivors of last January's earthquake live in tents. Cholera, a bacterial infection, is typically spread by contaminated water and food. The disease is treatable but without treatment, it can kill within hours.

King gathering in support of the Christian flag this Saturday...
“Return America --Christian Flag March and Rally of Support”
The peaceful gathering to show support for the Christian flag being flown again at the Veterans Memorial at Central Park in King happens this Saturday morning.
The March will start promptly at 10am (Saturday morning, OCT 23) from the Calvary Baptist Church parking lot at 536 South Main Street in King. A Rally will begin at 11am (until 12:30pm) at the amphitheatre in Central Park.
-The March route goes from Calvary‘s parking lot up Main Street to the stoplight at Kirby Road then left on Kirby to the second entrance to Central Park.
-a bus will be available for those that can’t walk…
-Many motorcyclists are gathering at the American Legion in King…
FYI: Some streets will be blocked off, and city officials say there will probably be no parking at the Memorial.
Calvary Baptist Church officials are requesting that the ‘March and Rally’ will be a silent one with NO protest signs. Christian flags and American flags are welcome.
Scheduled speakers include: Dr. David Gibbs III of the Christian Law Association and Dr. Ron Baity of ‘Return America’.

Water on the moon? NASA has spent the last year studying data from its lunar-impact probe. That data reveals that up to a billion gallons of water ice sits in the floor of a crater that's in a permanent shadow near the moon's south pole. The probe also revealed the existence of silver, mercury, carbon monoxide, and ammonia on the moon. (RnR)

According to a study by the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, women give more to charities in every income bracket except one: those with incomes of between $23 to $43,000 dollars. FYI: Leaders with World Vision were not surprised by the results of the study. For decades, World Vision’s ‘target donor’ is a 47-year-old, college-educated female. The American Red Cross also has targeted women for bigger gifts throughout its history, but added a donor group just for women in 2005.

Representative Hugh Holliman (D - Davidson County) getting an apology from Tom Fetzer the state Republican chairman for a GOP campaign flier suggesting that Holliman wanted death-row inmates released from prison. Representative Hugh Holliman (D - Davidson County) getting an apology from Tom Fetzer the state Republican chairman for a GOP campaign flier suggesting that Holliman wanted death-row inmates released from prison. Back in 1985, Holliman’s 16 year old daughter was sexually assaulted and murdered. Holliman eventually witnessed the execution of her killer…and does support the death penalty. The accident happened near the intersection of Wafford Road and Lothridge Lane just south of Lexington in Davidson County. Witnesses say that Farley was walking with his back toward traffic and wearing headphones at the time of the accident. Farley suffered broken bones in both of his legs. 31 year old Aaliyah Haqq gave birth to her sixth child in the parking lot of a beauty shop on Walkertown Road on Sunday…after her water broke on the way to the hospital. Aaliyah’s sister, Miranda Colston spotted her car on the side of the road, while on her way to the hospital. "She began to push and I delivered the baby," said Miranda. Mom and baby (and the other 5 children) eventually made it safely to Forsyth Medical Center. Last year’s CROP Walk in Forsyth County raised close to $80,000 dollars. FYI: Teeny Paxton is a born walker. At 85, she walks about 10 miles a week in her neighborhood near Robinhood Road, at Hanes Mall. Every October since 1979, Teeny has taken part in area CROP Walks.

KVAL-TV in Gresham, Oregon reported a trooper spotted Marcia Brandon's car going 110 mph Thursday on Highway 26 west of Gresham. She said she was on her way to an appointment and wasn't aware she was going that fast. Brandon was given a ticket for $1,103.

Sad News...
WBFJ Morning Show host and friend Darren Stevens passed away earlier this morning. Darren was 42 years old.
Darren was recovering in the hospital from emergency surgery after his appendix ruptured last Friday. Cause of death is still unknown.
Darren was a life long resident of Ramseur in Randolph County.
Darren is survived by his wife Jennifer and their three children…Hannah (12), Samuel (10) and Grace (6). Please keep the Darren’s family in your prayers.

One of the rescued miners proclaimed, "I was with God and I was with the devil. They fought and God won." The miners have been trapped about a mile underground since August 5th. The Christian flag debate continues in King. Three options are currently on the table after last night’s public hearing. Transferring the Veteran’s Memorial to a private entity such as a veterans’ group was one of the three options that the King City Council presented to hundreds of people attending a public forum last night in King. More than 40 people spoke at the hearing.
City officials are also considering keeping the Christian flag down from the Veteran’s Memorial on public land at the city’s Central Park…or creating a limited public forum that would designate a flag pole to display religious flags recognized by the U.S. military for placement at government markers. Back on (Sept 16), the King City Council voted to remove the Christian Flag a local Veterans Memorial after the ACLU threatened a lawsuit.

The actual rescue of those 33 Chilean miners trapped underground since August 5th should start as soon as tonight. Emergency crews successfully tested a ‘rescue pod’ that will be used to bring the trapped miners one-by-one to the surface earlier this morning. More questions than answers in the disappearance of a 10 year old girl from Hickory. Authorities are saying that Zahra Clare Baker hasn’t been seen in weeks after being reported missing on Saturday. A search warrant revealed yesterday that police dogs had detected the smell of human remains on cars belonging to Zahra’s father and step mom. The 10-year-old girl's stepmother is in police custody, charged with about a dozen crimes unrelated to the disappearance of the little girl.

Researchers at the University of Tennessee found that Americans average just 5,100 steps per day, far fewer than people in Australia (9,700), Switzerland (9,650) and Japan (7,168). The analysis of data from 1,136 U.S. adults also revealed that, on average, American men take more steps per day than women. A woman walking home from the Four Seasons Town Centre in Greensboro was abducted and sexually assaulted Sunday afternoon. Police said the 18-year-old woman was walking along Vanstory Drive between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday when the incident happened. Officers said the victim was left on the side of the road some time afterward. The vehicle is described as being gold in color with larger than normal tires. Early totals, from Fair officials, showing that this year’s Dixie Classic Fair had the second largest attendance in its 128-year history. Approximately 353,000 people came through the gates. This attendance number is more than 30,000 above last year's attendance.
Mark your calendar: Next year’s Dixie Classic Fair is scheduled from Sept. 30 - Oct. 9, 2011.
Also, thanks to everyone who came out last Wednesday to the Dixie Classic Fair, an estimated 64,900 food items were collected to help the needy right here in Forsyth County through Crisis Control Ministry.

Bank of America has temporarily halted all U.S. foreclosure proceedings amid pressures regarding the flaws in reviewing foreclosure documents. N.C. Attorney General Roy Cooper asked B of A to halt foreclosures in North Carolina late last week. The bank has suspended foreclosures in 23 states. The bank doesn’t intend to lift the moratorium until its assessment of all documentation is complete. The Wall Street Journal.

Ex-NASCAR driver and Pleasant Garden native Shane Hmiel was involved in a serious accident over the weekend during qualifying at a race track in Indiana. The 30 year old was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital Saturday night after his vehicle slammed into a wall between Turns 3 and 4 and then rolled over. Hmiel was listed in critical but stable condition after crash.
